Who are we ?

Who is behind La Vélidéale?

A whole range of players have joined forces to bring the La Vélidéale route to life: regions, départements, inter-municipalities and tourist institutions... These areas have chosen to join forces to bring this project to life and coordinate their efforts in 2023, with the creation of a route committee.

Identified in the national plan for cycle routes and greenways, the V93 was christened La Vélidéale® in early 2024.

Why create La Vélidéale?

Our ambition is to offer cyclists a new range of tourist activities that will highlight rural and urban areas. This approach will enhance the natural and historical heritage of the area, while boosting the local economy and providing incentives and services for users.

The aim of this initiative is to benefit local residents by developing soft mobility, thereby helping to improve the quality of life.

Inaugurated in the summer of 2024, the cycle route is signposted in both directions. Alternating between green lanes and small shared roads, the route will be gradually improved, both in terms of the route itself and the services offered to cyclists.

A collective project

The Route Committee is the consultation and decision-making body, made up of 36 partners (2 regions, 6 départements, 5 regional nature parks and 24 conurbation communities/communities of communes and their associated tourist institutions).

Who is doing what?

Each partner works to develop the route.

The route committee is jointly steered by 2 entities:

- the Charente department, which provides political leadership and co-ordinates the technical aspects of the infrastructure

- Charentes Tourisme - the Charentes departmental tourism committee - coordinates the overall management of the project in terms of administration, communication and finance.

The regions, départements, inter-municipalities and their tourism institutions (CRT, CDT, ADRT, OT), as well as the regional nature parks, are providing financial and technical support for the project. The départements, in conjunction with the communes, communities of communes along the route and tourism institutions at regional, département or inter-communal level, support the development of services around the route and work together to promote it to tourists.

This website has been developed by France Vélo Tourisme, which works with many local authorities to promote major cycle routes throughout France, particularly through its websites and communications campaigns.
